DoEvents - October 2009

DoEvents is one of several emails that VBUG provides free of charge to the developer community. To see a complete list and subscribe please visit www.vbug.co.uk/newsletters

Following the recent VBUG elections, I'm very pleased to present this months issue of DoEvents as the new Chairman of VBUG.

During the past few months, we've been busy organising our annual conference will take place on the 26th November in Reading. To help cope with the current economic climate, this years conference will be a smaller event compared to some of our previous offerings. Despite this, we have a great line up of speakers offering practical advice which will help you become more productive using the current Microsoft technology stack. For those who are still learning about the .Net 3 Framework, David Ringsell will be doing an introduction to WPF. We will also have a session on refactoring by Gary Short and a session on concurrency using functional patterns in C# by Oliver Sturm. During the conference, there will also be Windows Mobile Device workshop which will be run by Tony Whitter.

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome onboard our new Vice Chairman Rob Blackmore. At this years conference, Rob will also be presenting a session on code generation using T4. In order to help us understand the needs of our members, Rob has been put together a questionnaire. These results will help us understand the tools and technologies that our members are using and will help us plan future events. One lucky winner will win a copy of the Microsoft Press book Visual Basic 2008 by Michael Halvorson so visit our online questionnaire today by following the link below!

In other parts of the country, we also have some great events including a session on using Mono in London. Keep an eye on the VBUG website for further news and we hope to see you soon!
